Women in Web 3

Meet Kiki Rutten, Blockchain Advisor at One Sotheby’s.

Web3 is opening up new opportunities for female founders to showcase their projects and skills. This emerging technology is still in its infancy, which means that there is more room for new and diverse voices to be heard. According to a recent report by TechCrunch, only 13% of venture-backed companies have a female founder, indicating a significant gender gap in the startup world. However, Web3 presents a unique opportunity for female founders to stand out and make an impact, particularly as the industry grows and becomes more established. With its focus on decentralization and transparency, Web 3.0 is helping to level the playing field and give underrepresented groups a chance to succeed.

Kiki Rutten is a blockchain specialist based in Miami, Florida. She has been a driving force in the Web3 space, working with One Sotheby’s and women founders to bring awareness to this emerging technology. As a woman in a predominantly male-dominated industry, she understands the importance of creating opportunities for other women in the field.

Kiki first got introduced to Web3 and blockchain technology while investing in Ethereum and states that “ you don’t truly know an industry unless you invest in it yourself”, the rest is history and Kiki is now a prominent figure in the Miami Web 3 space.

Rutten’s work with One Sotheby’s has been instrumental in bringing the benefits of Web3 to the real estate industry. The company is the first brokerage to sell a house on the blockchain, where she acts as the advisor and listing agent on the MetaResidence. One Sotheby’s will also be the first to host an open house in the metaverse as the Florida mansion also exists as an exact replica in The Sandbox metaverse.

By leveraging blockchain technology, One Sotheby’s has been able to streamline its processes and improve transparency. Rutten has been a key player in this initiative, working with the team to develop and implement blockchain solutions that are tailored to their specific needs. In addition to her work with One Sotheby’s, Rutten is also passionate about supporting women founders in the Web 3.0 space. She has been a mentor and advisor to several female-led startups, helping them navigate the complex world of blockchain technology and providing guidance on fundraising, business development, and more.

One of the key challenges facing women in Web3 is the lack of representation and visibility. As a relatively new industry, it is still predominantly male-dominated, and women are often overlooked or undervalued. Rutten’s work in promoting the contributions of women in this space is therefore crucial, as it helps to bring more diverse perspectives and voices to the table, she states “To be the only female on the MetaResidence project with 20 other males is empowering. This industry is in such need of female leaders, so to be a female and the face of a project leading this industry is really rewarding. Hopefully, it can inspire other women to move forward and build their own projects”

Through her work with One Sotheby’s and women founders in Web 3, Rutten is helping to create a more inclusive and diverse industry. Her efforts are making a tangible impact, not only by bringing awareness to the potential of Web3 but also by creating opportunities for women to excel in this exciting new field. As more women like Rutten continue to break barriers and pave the way for others, we can look forward to a future where Web3 is truly inclusive and representative of all voices.
